25th November 2005
Victorian Robert Allenby held a four shot lead over Queenslander Adam Scott after a second round one over 73. Tournament officials came underfire from all quarters after the par-four 12th needed to be watered mid-round after it became unplayable.
Allenby said afterwards, "I think they put too much water on it, to say the least,"
"You get used to it. In the US it happens a lot, even at the US Open. This is our national championship and it should be set up tough.
"Maybe that flag should have been in the middle of the green. I think a few flags out there they didn't think about with this wind."
West Australian golfer Stephen Leaney was far from impressed with the tournament organisers, the Australian Golf Union.
Leaney said, "I just think the AGU needs to learn there's nothing in the rule book that says you can water (the greens during play). This doesn't seem to happen when tournaments are run by the PGA or someone else. It's just frustrating for us."

Adam Scott is regarded as the most exciting young Australian golfer since Greg Norman. At the age of 23 years, eight months and 12 days, he became the youngest winner of The Players Championship on the US PGA Tour, an event considered by many to be the game's fifth Major.
Scott is a four-time winner on the US PGA Tour. His initial breakthrough came at the 2003 Deutsche Bank Championship after a second round 62 set up a four stroke win and saw Adam break into the top 20 in the World Rankings for the first time.
