9th October 2005
Big hitting American John Daly posted his third successive round of 67 at the WGC American Express event in San Francisco to take a one-shot lead into the final day. Daly sits at 9 under the card, one clear of Scot Colin Montgomerie, who carded a 69. World number 1 Tiger Woods and Spaniard Sergio Garcia are well within striking distance at 7 under.
Daly, who began with bogey-par-double bogey start said afterwards, "I wasn't that upset with the start, I was a little frustrated because I was three-over. But I really didn't miss a shot except the drive on one."
"It's a lot of fun, but it's very stressful. I mean, it's great to be in this position, but it's not the easiest thing to do."
Montgomerie who won last week in Scotland to break a 19-month drought between tournament wins said after he parred the final 10 holes for a 69, "I'm quite proud of what I did out there to beat par and to stay in contention."
That's what one always does come Saturday night, to give oneself an opportunity to win. And I've done that, and we'll see what happens.''

Adam Scott is regarded as the most exciting young Australian golfer since Greg Norman. At the age of 23 years, eight months and 12 days, he became the youngest winner of The Players Championship on the US PGA Tour, an event considered by many to be the game's fifth Major.
Scott is a four-time winner on the US PGA Tour. His initial breakthrough came at the 2003 Deutsche Bank Championship after a second round 62 set up a four stroke win and saw Adam break into the top 20 in the World Rankings for the first time.
