Els wins Dunhill Championship

Els wins Dunhill Championship 13th December 2005

Ernie Els overcame a four deficit with 11 holes to play to win the European Tour's Dunhill Championship with a 14-under-par total of 274.

The Big Easy was playing in just his second tournament since an injury enforced four month lay off. His first at the Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City saw him finish ninth in a field of 12.

Els said, "To win so soon after coming back to tournament golf is like a dream come true,"

"But I love the course and was determined to have a go. And it's an amazing feeling coming out here and actually winning. When you're out of the game for so long with an injury you worry about whether you'll ever be the same gain."

"Two weeks ago I wasn't too sure whether I could break 80 in competition. And in my first tournament back, the Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City, I didn't exactly set the course alight."

"But I took some positives out of Sun City, and my practice round here at Leopard Creek gave me an idea that my game was pretty much there. It might sound a bit cocky, I guess, but even though it was only my second tournament back since the British Open in July I felt I had a chance to win."

"I am a member here and know the course well and I guess my experience paid off."

Els collected $252,000 after claiming victory from fellow South Africans, Charl Schwartzel, the defending champion, and Louis Oosthuizen who finished three shots adrift on 277.

Adam Scott

Adam Scott is regarded as the most exciting young Australian golfer since Greg Norman. At the age of 23 years, eight months and 12 days, he became the youngest winner of The Players Championship on the US PGA Tour, an event considered by many to be the game's fifth Major.

Scott is a four-time winner on the US PGA Tour. His initial breakthrough came at the 2003 Deutsche Bank Championship after a second round 62 set up a four stroke win and saw Adam break into the top 20 in the World Rankings for the first time.
