West Australian Nick O`Hern has opened up a five shot lead at the Australian Masters being played at Huntingdale after firing a 6 under 66 to lead by five strokes at the halfway mark.
O`Hern, who followed up his course record 8 under 64 opening round with a bogey free effort on Friday will return on the weekend searching for just his second tournament win, his first the 1999 Coolum Classic.
O'Hern said after his round, "If I keep playing the way I am I can still shoot two really good rounds."
"There's plenty of guys behind me (who) are going to shoot low on the weekend so I'm going to have to keep making birdies."
"The difference is, when I get the opportunity to make a putt, I'm knocking it in,"
"It was very solid again, I hit the ball pretty similar to yesterday. Not fantastic, but just in play and I kept making a few putts which was nice.
"Every time I got into strife I managed to get it up and down for par, which was only two or three times I think."
"I'll say the greens will firm up a bit more and get a bit quicker, they always do on the weekend, which means you'll have to take a bit more of a conservative approach."
"But today I made sure that when I did miss shots I was on the right side and I had uphill putts."

Adam Scott is regarded as the most exciting young Australian golfer since Greg Norman. At the age of 23 years, eight months and 12 days, he became the youngest winner of The Players Championship on the US PGA Tour, an event considered by many to be the game's fifth Major.
Scott is a four-time winner on the US PGA Tour. His initial breakthrough came at the 2003 Deutsche Bank Championship after a second round 62 set up a four stroke win and saw Adam break into the top 20 in the World Rankings for the first time.
