17th October 2005
Little known Wes Short Jr. won his first PGA TOUR title when he beat former US Open champion Jim Furyk on the second playoff hole to claim the Michelin Championship title in Las Vegas. Short Jr. who only joined the PGA Tour last year as a 40 year old rookie made his way into a playoff after he birdied the last hole while Furyk completed his final round with a three putt bogey at the last.
Furyk put his tee shot on the par-3 17th into the lake at the second playoff hole virtually handing victory to Short Jr. who found a greenside bunker from the tee. Short Jr. tapped in for par after leaving the ball a foot shy of the hole, collecting the $720,000 winners cheque.
Short Jr. and Jim Furyk who was chasing a fourth win at the Michelin Championships in Vegas finished at 21 under the card, two clear of Harrison Frazar and Ted Purdy who tied for third place.

Adam Scott is regarded as the most exciting young Australian golfer since Greg Norman. At the age of 23 years, eight months and 12 days, he became the youngest winner of The Players Championship on the US PGA Tour, an event considered by many to be the game's fifth Major.
Scott is a four-time winner on the US PGA Tour. His initial breakthrough came at the 2003 Deutsche Bank Championship after a second round 62 set up a four stroke win and saw Adam break into the top 20 in the World Rankings for the first time.
