Child prodigy Michelle Wie has turned professional. The 16-year-old Hawaiian schoolgirl made the announcement at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hotel, next to the Waialae Country Club home of the Sony Open.
Wie shot a 68 in the Sony Open, when only a 13-year-old playing with a sponsors exemption. It was and still is today the lowest ever score by a female competing on the men's PGA TOUR.
A multi millionaire already having signed endorsement deals in excess of $10 million with sporting apparel company Nike and electronics giant Sony, this dwarfs the $6 million brought in by Anika Sorenstam a nine time Major winner on the LPGA.
The teenager announced a $500,000 donation to the U.S. Golf Hurricane Relief Fund. Her professional debut is only a week away when she takes her place in the Samsung World Championship, at Bighorn Golf Club in the California desert.

Adam Scott is regarded as the most exciting young Australian golfer since Greg Norman. At the age of 23 years, eight months and 12 days, he became the youngest winner of The Players Championship on the US PGA Tour, an event considered by many to be the game's fifth Major.
Scott is a four-time winner on the US PGA Tour. His initial breakthrough came at the 2003 Deutsche Bank Championship after a second round 62 set up a four stroke win and saw Adam break into the top 20 in the World Rankings for the first time.
