Sergio Garcia turned professional in 1999 after an impressive career in the amateur ranks, which saw him win the Catalonian Open as a then 17-year-old. Garcia made the cut in 12 of the 18 European Tour events he entered before turning professional.
His breakthrough victory came at the Irish Open in just his sixth start as a professional, a result that saw his name go into the record books as the fourth youngest winner on The European Tour at 19 years and 176 days.
Attempting to be the youngest winner of a Major Championship for 129 years, the Spanish youngster finished second behind Tiger Woods in the 1999 US PGA Championship at Medinah.
The 24-year-old Garcia is already a five-time winner on both the European Tour and the US PGA Tour. He also has recorded three victories on the Asian Tour.
